The Lankupiai Lock, located in the village of Lankupiai within the Priekulė eldership, is a unique engineering masterpiece in Lithuania and the only technical monument of its kind in the country. It was designed to manage the water level fluctuations of the Minija River during floods. The lock's operating principle allows for the safe and efficient transfer of vessels, balancing significant water level differences in just 45 minutes.
Although the Lankupiai Lock is occasionally used for its original purpose today, its historical and technical value remains priceless. It is a center of attraction not only for engineering enthusiasts but also for cultural heritage aficionados, demonstrating the level of Lithuanian engineering skills and innovation.
