Lauksargiai Evangelical Lutheran Church is one of the historically significant landmarks in the Tauragė district, which has experienced both the losses caused by war and its eventual revival. The history of the church and its parish is complex, with the first major blow occurring during World War I when the Russian army, aiming to capture the Klaipėda region, shelled the church and destroyed its tower. Later, after invading the town, they destroyed the altar, organ, and other church furnishings, leaving it in ruins. The full restoration of the church took almost 10 years, and it was restored in 1924. During World War II, the building remained untouched, but community life only revived in 1947 when cantor Peteris Knispelis managed to revive the parish’s activities. Services were once again held by Tauragė parish priest J. Kalvanas and other clergymen who helped the church come back to life after the difficult years.
