Kalnelio (Sidabrė) Hill Fort is a national archaeological, historical, and mythological treasure (code 23854). In the 13th century, this site was a defensive castle of the Semigallians, the last stronghold in the battles against the Livonian Order. The castle was first mentioned in 1288 as an impregnable fortress, but in 1290, after a famine and raids, the Semigallians withdrew. Following this event, Sidabrė was burned down, and Semigallia was conquered. The hill fort is linked to the origins of the town of Joniškis, as the town’s history began here. The resistance of Sidabrė's defenders became an inspiration for the people of Joniškis in their fight for independence, as evidenced by a monument with deep historical significance.

The hill fort also features a chapel, built in the 16th–17th centuries, with a cemetery, making it an important historical and cultural site honoring the defenders of Sidabrė Castle.
