A pride of the town of Krekenava is the masonry church, built in 1902 based on the design of architect Ustinas Golinevičius, renowned for the image of the Mother of God, which is believed to possess miraculous powers. This sanctuary attracts visitors not only for its historical beauty but also for the annual Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary – Assumption Day celebrations, which draw pilgrims from all over Lithuania.
The church is in the historicist style, with neo-Gothic elements, featuring a dual-towered structure, a rectangular plan, and a three-aisled interior. In 2011, during the Assumption Day celebrations, the church was granted the title of Minor Basilica by Pope Benedict XVI. This title elevated the Krekenava Church to the list of important Catholic sanctuaries in Lithuania, further emphasizing its historical and religious significance.
