The Padvariai Barrow Mounds are one of the oldest archaeological sites in Kretinga district. Research by scientists has revealed that people were buried here from the 2nd century BC to the end of the 1st century AD. While the number of finds is not impressive, the mounds stand out for their well-preserved stone constructions and their uniqueness.
In local folklore, the barrows are often associated with giants – legendary heroes known for their extraordinary strength and height. Stories about the lives and adventures of these "giants" are passed down from generation to generation, adding mystery and charm to the place.
This historical site invites visitors not only to learn about the ancient Curonian culture but also to discover Lithuania's heritage steeped in myths.
