The roots of the Kretinga Lutheran community date back to the 16th century, and the current Neo-Gothic church, located near Town Hall Square, was consecrated in 1899. Its construction was supported by people from various confessions and social classes. Although the Tiškevičiai family was Catholic, they donated the timber needed for construction, while the Jewish community contributed funds for the stained glass windows. Even the King of Prussia, Wilhelm II, supported the initiative by funding the installation of the main altar.
The most important treasure of this church is its united community, but its cultural assets are no less impressive. One such treasure is the historic organ, created by the famous master Johann Preuss in Königsberg in 1785, which still adorns the interior.
