The square in the town of Saločiai offers us a historical context, reminding us of the significant victory on November 12, 1919, against the Bermontians, a notable event in the annals of our nation's restoration. To commemorate this victory and honor the fallen soldiers, an obelisk was erected in 1928, rich with symbolism: a globe pierced by a sword, strikingly expressing Lithuania's will and spirit of independence. However, time brought the grim post-war days when this monument became a witness to the degradation of partisan memory.
