After the death of Dr. Domininkas Bukontas, his family established the Revival Society to commemorate his legacy. In 1939, under the society's initiative, a study titled Dr. Domininkas Bukontas by Juozas Žagrakalys was published, and funds were raised for the construction of a monument. Although plans were disrupted by Soviet occupation and the war, the idea was revived, and in 1993, a monument was erected based on a design by Leonas Strioga. The inscription on the monument reads: "Heart, mind, and life / For the nation and all humanity."
D. Bukontas' work inspired the people of Zarasai during the Sąjūdis movement. A street named in his honor features the house where the doctor lived and died. Adjacent land was designated for the construction of the Riflemen's House, fulfilling the wishes of the late doctor.
