Lithuanian émigré writer Liudas Dovydėnas, born in 1906 in Trumpiškis village, Rokiškis district, was a laureate of the Lithuanian State Prize. He began his literary career in 1928, writing under his real name or the pseudonym Vilimėlis. In 1931–1932, he published the short story collections Cenzūros leista (Approved by Censorship) and Buvo žmogus be kojų (There Was a Man Without Legs). Shortly after, he released the two-volume novel Ieškau gyvenimo draugo (Seeking a Life Partner), depicting the lives of rural teachers.
