The history of the Church of St. Joseph in Saločiai is deeply intertwined with the life of the local community and the changing historical circumstances. In the 16th century, after the Biržai Radziwiłłs took over the property of the Catholic Church and demolished the first wooden church, a Reformed prayer house was established in its place. However, in 1632, the efforts of the Catholic community led to a legal defeat for the Radziwiłłs, resulting in the church being returned to the Catholics. Around 1755, a new wooden church was built, but unfortunately, it was destroyed by fire on July 26, 1944, which also resulted in the loss of the bell tower's bell. Despite these challenges, the Saločiai community, supported by the administrators, priests Kazimieras Pukenis and Antanas Balis, rebuilt the church in 1945, converting a brick two-story rectory into a place of worship, thus ensuring its continuity and significance for the local residents.
