In the town of Skuodas stands a unique monument, erected through the initiative of deportees, symbolizing the suffering of the Lithuanian nation and its struggle for freedom. This original piece, created by sculptor Vytautas Narušis, commemorates the motif of the Sorrowful Mother of God. The monument is distinctive for its design—a white concrete lacework that harmonizes beautifully with its surroundings: a green park and a blue sky backdrop. The sculpture depicts two versions of the Mother of God, both with flaming hearts and seven swords, symbolizing the sharp pains of the nation. This work embodies the history of the Skuodas region and the Lithuanian people, their sufferings, and hopes for a better life. The monument is a popular attraction not only for local residents but also for tourists.
