Paberžė Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Initially, the owner of the Paberžė estate, Count Šilingas, built a wooden church that soon burned down. In 1858, a new wooden Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary was erected, which stands to this day. This church was served by Priest Antanas Mackevičius, known as one of the leaders of the 1863 uprising, who proclaimed the uprising's manifesto in the church, calling for resistance against the Tsar's rule. In 1966, Capuchin Priest Algirdas Mykolas Dobrovolskis – Father Stanislovas, arrived in Paberžė. He renovated and decorated the church, maintained the cemetery, built original monuments in the sanctuary, and also established a unique museum of church and folk art. The church houses extremely valuable works, including an altar and a cross created by the famous Lithuanian master Vincas Svirskis.
