The Bakainiai Hillfort complex, located within the Krekenava Regional Park, is one of the largest hillforts in the region. Positioned atop a hill with two forecourts and defensive ramparts, this historical site is highly visible from three sides due to the Liaudė River. The northern side is protected by a natural embankment. Mentioned in Teutonic Order documents from 1372, the hillfort dates back from the 2nd millennium BC to the 15th century. Today, the complex is visitor-friendly, featuring a parking area, stairs, and outdoor seating. Traditional celebrations, such as Midsummer's Day and King Mindaugas' Coronation Day, are marked by impressive bonfires and music. A new glass display provides visual impressions of the former hillfort fortifications, requiring visitors to find the right viewing angle for a full experience.
