The Bakainiai Mound complex, located within the Krekenava Regional Park, is one of the largest mounds in our region. Situated on a hill with two fore-mounds and protective ramparts, this historical site is well visible from three sides due to the Liaudė River. The northern side is safeguarded by a natural rampart. Mentioned in 1372 in Teutonic documents, the mound dates from the 2nd millennium BC to the 15th century. Today, the complex is adapted for visitors: a parking lot, stairs, and outdoor furniture have been installed. Traditional celebrations such as Midsummer Night (Joninės) and King Mindaugas Coronation Day are marked here with impressive bonfires and music. A new glass display provides visitors with visual impressions of the mound's ancient fortifications, requiring the right viewing angle to fully appreciate it.
