On August 28, 1941, the tragic fate of the Jewish communities of Kėdainiai, Šėta, and Žeimiai shook the city, as 2,076 residents were brutally murdered, including 710 men, 767 women, and 599 children. This marked the end of nearly 300 years of the Jewish community's history in Kėdainiai. The community was notable for its distinguished rabbis, and among those who studied there was Elijah, who later became known as the Vilna Gaon.
On September 25, 2011, a memorial was solemnly unveiled at the burial site, inscribed with the names of 1,003 identified individuals, symbolizing remembrance and honor for the victims.
