Unveiled with ceremony on the wall of Motiejus Gustaitis Gymnasium in Lazdijai, the Forest King – To the Forest Brothers mural celebrates the memory of Dainava region partisans who fought for Lithuania's freedom. Dominated by the figure of a moose, symbolizing strength and independence, the mural, created by artist Ieva Vaivaraitė-Ošikienė, incorporates the pseudonyms of the partisans within the dense forest, reflecting their ability to hide and survive in Lithuania's woods. This piece, funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture and the Lazdijai District Municipality, represents a fusion of contemporary art and historical memory, engaging viewers in the daily life and spirit of the partisans. The project was carried out in consultation with the Genocide and Resistance Research Centre of Lithuania and the Lazdijai Regional Museum, contributing to the cultural heritage and tourism growth in Lazdijai.
