The homestead in Gaubiai village, situated in Western Samogitia, is an exceptional example of ethno-architecture, embodying the region's cultural heritage. The homestead consists of two authentic buildings—a house built in 1733 and a granary constructed in 1895. The house, renovated in 1895 and 1933, features a modernized interior layout while preserving traditional folk-style characteristics. Its roof, originally shingled and later covered with slate, creates an authentic atmosphere. The foundations are made of field stones, and the rectangular window and door frames add uniqueness to the building.
The granary, also built in 1895, underwent repairs in the mid-20th century when
the roofing was replaced. It has also preserved its original architectural forms. Gaubiai Homestead, with its rich history and cultural heritage, is listed in the Register of Immovable Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Lithuania. The unique code for the homestead is 1598 (house code 34950, granary code 34951), ensuring that this heritage site will be preserved for future generations.
This is an excellent destination for tourism enthusiasts seeking not only relaxation but also an opportunity to learn about Lithuania's ethnocultural heritage and traditions. A visit to Gaubiai village homestead allows one to feel the spirit of Samogitian culture and admire its uniqueness.
