Jurgis Kučinskas, known as Apuokas, was born in 1924 in Rūdelės village, Kalvarija municipality. In 1945, he chose the path of a partisan, even though he could have obtained documents to live legally. Jurgis's parents wished for their son to become a defender of his homeland. As a partisan, he belonged to the 4th (Ąžuolo) Company of the Vytautas Battalion in the Tauro District. Unfortunately, on January 24, 1946, Jurgis was killed in Rūdelės village, at Vincas Vinickas' homestead, while fighting for independence. He was initially buried in Rūdelės Cemetery, but in May 1946, his remains were secretly reburied in Rudaminos Cemetery, where a memorial now stands to mark his heroic actions.
