Location of the Lithuanian Partisan Battles and Deaths (Marčiukonys)

The site of a bunker in Teizai Eldership, Lazdijai District, serves as a reminder of the struggles of the partisans from the Šarūnas Battalion of the Dainava District. On December 28, 1951, deadly clashes occurred here with a unit of the NKVD's military forces. Five partisans lost their lives in these battles: Vytautas Juozas Saliklis (Eimutis), born in 1930 in Staidarai; Juozas Bražinskas (Kūkalis) from Ežerėliai; Juozas Petruškevičius (Keleivis), born in 1924 in Staidarai; Feliksas Stepulevičius (Vikruolis), born in 1928 in Laibagalai; and Romualdas Talandis (Svajūnas), born in 1933 in Giraitėliai. During the period of Rebirth, a cross was erected near the former bunker to symbolize the memory of these brave fighters.
