Plinys Hillfort

The Plinys Hillfort, located about 250 meters north of the Žarėnai-Plungė road, near the Minija River, is an important historical site dated to the 5th–4th centuries BC. It is an elongated hill with steep slopes, which is believed to have served as a hillfort-port. Between 1959 and 1962, archaeologist V. Valatka conducted excavations at the site, uncovering remnants of a settlement, including hearths, comb-impressed pottery, clay spindles, and fragments of metal smelting furnaces.
In 2018, a severe storm in western Lithuania significantly damaged the hillfort area, uprooting trees and leading to restricted access for safety reasons.
