The tallest tree in Lithuania, reaching up to 49 meters, is a larch approximately 160 years old, growing in the Degsnė Botanical Reserve. This unique larch forest in Degsnė, covering an area of 2.7 hectares, was artificially planted and has been protected since 1960.

The tallest tree can be reached via a well-maintained dirt road, approximately 2.5 kilometers from the main road Kaunas–Alytus. Larches do not grow naturally in Lithuania; however, more than 150 years ago, the first larch seedlings were planted on the edge of Degsnė Forest. Today, this larch forest is one of the most productive in Lithuania, with a wood volume of up to 1237 cubic meters per hectare. Each year, one hectare adds more than 10 cubic meters of wood, primarily due to the height of the trees. The average height of larches here is about 42 meters, with the tallest trees reaching 45 meters or more.
