The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Pakuonis is located in the picturesque town of Pakuonis, on the right bank of the Kuonė River, a left tributary of the Nemunas. The current brick church was built in 1883, under the care of the parish priest Kazimieras Jasiulevičius-Jasulaitis, replacing an earlier wooden structure that was built around 1792. The church was consecrated in 1886 by Auxiliary Bishop Juozapas Olekas.

The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Pakuonis is located in the picturesque town of Pakuonis, on the right bank of the Kuonė River, a left tributary of the Nemunas. The current brick church was built in 1883, under the care of the parish priest Kazimieras Jasiulevičius-Jasulaitis, replacing an earlier wooden structure that was built around 1792. The church was consecrated in 1886 by Auxiliary Bishop Juozapas Olekas.
The Pakuonis parish has long been known for its cultural and educational
activities—a parish school was mentioned as early as 1819, and in 1907, a branch of the "Žiburys" Society was established here, contributing to the distribution of Lithuanian press. During World War I, the church tower was blown up, and in 1944, the rectory buildings were destroyed. After the war, the church was repaired, and in 1975 it was restored again under the initiative of priest Pranas Lingis. This priest was persecuted for depicting the Columns of Gediminas, a national symbol, on the church pillars.
