The shrine post commemorating the 600-year history of the Samogitian baptism stands solemnly at the foot of St. John's Hill. This location has a rich history, once home to a wooden Curonian fortress and later the first sacred structure of Žemaičių Kalvarija. Today, it hosts the III and IV chapels of the Žemaičių Kalvarija Way of the Cross. This example of unique craftsmanship, carved from oak, was created by renowned Samogitian sculptor and cross-carving master Antanas Vaškys. The images on the shrine post depict the baptism by the bishop in the Varduva River, St. John the Baptist baptizing Jesus, and portraits of significant rulers in Lithuanian history – Vytautas and Jogaila.
