The monument located in the city center, dedicated to honoring those who died for Lithuania's independence, was originally decided upon by members of the 18th Riflemen's Battalion. In 1945, Soviet soldiers' graves were established in this square, and the original monument, created by R. Antinis, was blown up and buried on the same site. In 1988, the remnants of the sculpture were unearthed, and R. Antinis recreated a replica of the monument based on them. In 1990, the monument to those who died for Lithuania's independence was re-erected in the town square according to a prepared plan. The monument was restored in 2006.
