The Kirkilai Karstic Ponds are a unique natural phenomenon in Lithuania. The largest of them, Kirkilai Lake (Long Lake), covers 3.9 hectares and consists of 30 sinkholes. The lake's depth reaches 6.3 meters, and its length is 410 meters. During dry periods, the sinkholes turn into separate lakes, which reconnect during rainy years. The lakes are stunning with their winding shores, peninsulas, bays, and islands, offering a unique beauty.
Next to the ponds stands the Kirkilai observation tower, 32 meters high. The observation platform at the top allows visitors to enjoy a magnificent view of the ponds and their surroundings. Near the tower, there is an educational trail that winds through wetlands and peninsulas, offering an intimate connection with nature. The trail leads to a bridge, where a panoramic view opens, and the ponds are home to colonies of purple sulfur bacteria.
