Ignalina Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

In 1929, a wooden chapel was built, which belonged to the Vidiškiai parish. On September 17, 1933, Father Kazimieras Suchockis, the military dean of Grodno, consecrated the wooden church. In 1938, the construction of a new church began, but it was interrupted by World War II. After the war, the unfinished church was confiscated by the Soviet authorities. In 1988, a competition was announced for the design of a new church, which was won by architect Ričardas Krištapavičius and designer Vincas Dineika. On November 11, 1989, Archbishop Julijonas Steponavičius consecrated the cornerstone of the future church. In 1990, the parish was established. The new brick church was completed in 1999 and was consecrated by Archbishop Metropolitan Audrys Juozas Bačkis on December 26, 1999. The church interior features sculptures by sculptor Stanislovas Kuzma.
