The owners of Kazitiškis Manor, the Belikavičiai family, built a wooden church in 1745 and invited Uniate monks. The monastery and church were closed in 1834, and an Orthodox church was established. Bishop Motiejus Valančius encouraged the Salakas parish priest to build a chapel in Kazitiškis. It was constructed between 1860 and 1862 but was closed by Russian authorities in 1864. At one end of the chapel, an altar was set up, and services began to be held. The current brick church was built between 1906 and 1908 and was consecrated in 1909 by Bishop

Gasparas Cirtautas of Samogitia. In 1920, the church found itself in territory occupied by Poland. A parish was established in 1925. In 1934, the occupational authorities prohibited the newly formed Lithuanian choir from rehearsing. Parish priest Vincas Bobinas (who had been in Kazitiškis since 1928) was sentenced to 5 years in prison for his Lithuanian activities. The church was renovated in 1938. The church is Neo-Gothic, basilican, with two towers and a lower apse. The interior has three naves. The churchyard fence consists of wooden structures.
