It seems that his father, who was an organist at the Palūšė church at the time, sowed in his son's soul a love for the magical sounds of music, while his mother, born in this region, taught him to appreciate the beauty of nature. Mikas speaks of music as if it were a beloved: "Music comforts in misfortune, music provides support in endeavors and determination, music gives the brain good rest after fatigue, strengthens and renews thoughts." In Palūšė, in 1973, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the composer's birth, a monument to M. Petrauskas, created by sculptor J. Kėdainis, was erected.
