The green carpet of mountain pines, planted by human hands across the hills, fully reveals its beauty from the top of the Old Tavern Hill (Kuršių: Vecekrugas) in the Karvaičiai landscape reserve between Preila and Nida. It is said that an inn once stood at its foot. This dune lies 1.5 km south of Preila, opposite Preila Cape.

The highest afforested dune in the Curonian Spit offers a panoramic view of the Curonian Spit, which widens at Bulvikis Cape, as well as valleys of forests, groves along the coastal plain, and the contours of the lagoon's shores. The dune itself is equally impressive, with its green cover intersected by diagonal strips of white sand. The hill looks especially majestic when viewed from the north.

The height of Vecekrugas Hill is 67.2 meters. It is easiest to reach by cycling along the bike path.
