In 1975, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Martynas Liudvikas Rėza's birth, sculptor Eduardas Jonušas created a 7-meter high oak sculpture. It was erected at the entrance to the Pervalka settlement on the Birštvynas Dune. The sculpture features the carved face of M. L. Rėza, facing the dune ridge that buried the village of Karvaičiai, Rėza's birthplace, under the sand.
The oak monument is engraved with lines from M. L. Rėza's poem "The Sunken Village." The work is recognized as one of E. Jonušas's most outstanding woodworks, accurately capturing Rėza's likeness in a portrait composition.
