In the old-growth forest of Juodkrantė, visitors are greeted by an impressive sound catcher resembling a megaphone. This three-meter-tall and equally long wooden structure has a narrow end and a wide end. By placing your ear to the narrow end or stepping into the wide end, you can listen to the captured sounds of the forest and enjoy the surrounding environment. It's not enough to spend just five minutes here; to fully experience it, you should spend about half an hour inside the wide end of the catcher. Only then will you hear many forest sounds that are normally imperceptible to the naked ear. The wooden device captures and amplifies these sounds inside, allowing you to enjoy the forest symphony more than you would by just walking through the woods. This is the purpose of the sound catcher – to provide visitors with new experiences, enhance their senses, and feel the environment.

of the sound catcher – to provide visitors with new experiences, enhance their senses, and feel the environment. You can find the sound catcher in the northern part of Juodkrantė, near Amber Bay. Turn right off the main Smiltynė – Nida road into the forest. After walking a few hundred meters, at the fork in the path, turn left. There, in a forest clearing, the device is installed. The direction is marked by signs with miniature replicas of the catcher. The forest path you will travel was once called the Bloksberg Promenade by the Germans. Next to the device, there is an information board with QR codes that can be scanned with smartphones to listen to bird songs. The sound catcher was designed and installed by the staff of the Curonian Spit National Park.
