The church in Veliuona was built by the order of Vytautas the Great in 1421 and rebuilt in 1644. It is one of the oldest churches in Lithuania. The sanctuary is rich in historical and artistic treasures from various eras. The pillars and walls are adorned with paintings by artists such as Petras Kalpokas, the Italian-born painter Michał Elwiro Andriolli, Vytautas Gerulaitis, and others. In the churchyard rest the remains of the famous priest and folklorist Antanas Juška and his brother Jonas Juška, who made significant contributions to the Lithuanian language, brought back from Kazan.
