The historical monument, an archaeological complex of mounds, is located on the slope of the Nemunas Valley in the town of Veliuona. The western mound is called the Hill of Peace. It is a 32-meter-high steep-sided mound with a truncated cone shape. In the late 13th century to the early 15th century, Junigeda Castle stood on this mound, with a fortified settlement nearby.
The second mound is called the Hill of Gediminas' Grave. Atop this mound stands a monument to the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas, erected in 1925. Some historians claim that Gediminas died while attacking Bajerburg. Legend asserts that Gediminas is buried in Veliuona, and in his honor, the locals created a grave, hence the mound is named the Hill of Gediminas' Grave.
