On the night of July 4-5, 1941, around 30 men and women, most of them Jews, were killed and buried here. The perpetrators were the Ignalina White Armbands. In October 1944, the bodies of those killed near Lake Ilgis were exhumed. Four graves were found and uncovered, containing the bodies of 32 civilians and 25 soldiers.
