In the central square of Rietavas, near the municipality administration building, stands the Freedom Monument. It was erected in 1928 to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Lithuania's Independence. Later, it was demolished and then rebuilt in 1992. The Freedom Monument in Rietavas is unique because it stands on a road roller used to construct the Žemaičių Highway.
