In August 1941, a mass extermination of Jews from the Kaišiadorys region took place. Men, women, and children were gathered in one place, then marched or transported to be shot. The massacres occurred in the Strošiūnai forest. On August 26, 1941, 1,911 Jews from Kaišiadorys, Žasliai, and Žiežmariai were shot at this site. These were people from the Kaišiadorys ghetto and temporary isolation area.
