In Ignalina, there are often thoughts expressed that the beautiful, green city spaces lack elements of small architecture, sculptures that could better reveal the uniqueness of this cozy, small town surrounded by lakes. There are, of course, the old stone "Serenity," the "Cyclist" (by J. Grunda), and the wooden sculpture of the Ignalina legend that has become a city symbol (by G. Černius), but there's a desire for something new, free, playful, and attention-grabbing. Recently, Ignalina residents have been hearing about beautiful plans and even five new sculptures created by professional artists that will adorn the city this autumn. The first of these sculptures greeted the beginning of summer. It is sculptor Albertas Danilevičius' "Girl," which he affectionately calls "Little Seagull." So charming and subtle, it stands very modestly in the small park near Freedom Square.

This winter, reed sculptures by Albertas Danilevičius
adorned the shores of Lake Lūšiai in Palūšė, and another of his creations from the new set of five will appear in the developing city park near Lake Palaukinis. Sculptors Kęstutis Musteikis, Liutauras Griežė, Arvydas Ališanka, and local artist Raimondas Žievys are also creating for Ignalina. It is hoped that these art surprises in various locations will bring new colors and even more appeal to the city. These artistic activities are part of the project "Arts Catcher. Development of a Network of Creative Residencies in the Lake Region." The project is implemented under the "Culture" program, financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. The project partners are the Public Institution "Euroregion Lake District Directorate Office," Ignalina Regional Museum, Visaginas Cultural Center, Dusetos Art Gallery Cultural Center, Utena Regional Museum, the Public Institution "Kuri veikia," and Simbahollin (Iceland).
