The project "Ignalina is ARTi" has gifted Ignalina residents and visitors three art pieces that will always be open to the public.
The author, Mykolė Ganusauskaitė, spent her childhood summers in the Ignalina region, and most of her work is inspired by the landscapes and nature of this area. The painting "Marsh" reflects the nature of Aukštaitija and beautifully interacts with the surroundings of the gymnasium, integrating seamlessly into its environment. The artwork depicts a wetland discovered during a walk: vivid and dark tree trunks submerged in still water, where their reflections extend like the trees themselves, contrasting with the distant view of a white, dry birch grove.
About the artist: Mykolė Ganusauskaitė (b. 1987) studied at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris (École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts), where she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees. From 2015 to 2017, she lived and worked
in Copenhagen, and since 2017, she has been based in Vilnius. She has held solo exhibitions in Lithuania, France, and Denmark, and participated in exhibitions in Lithuania, France, Denmark, the USA, and elsewhere. She was the laureate of the 2013 "Young Painter Prize" competition. In 2016, she represented Lithuania at the UNESCO art camp in Andorra. In 2017, she resided at the Saari art residency in Finland. In 2019, she represented Lithuania at the international artists' meeting "Over Mountains and Oceans" in China.
Mykolė Ganusauskaitė's work predominantly features landscapes. In her paintings, landscapes move away from direct representation of nature, characterized by stylized, geometric, flattened forms of landscapes that appear scenographic, like empty stage decorations.
The wall was decorated by Tadas Vincaitis - Plūgas, the most renowned representative and one of the pioneers of the neo-fresco genre in Lithuania.
