Teofilius Matulionis was born on June 22, 1873, in the village of Kudoriškis, Molėtai district, and died on August 20, 1962, in Šeduva. He is buried in Kaišiadorys Cathedral. An archbishop and the administrator of the Diocese of Kaišiadorys, he was beatified. His life path serves as an example to all, and his chosen motto, "Per crucem ad astra" ("Through the cross to the stars"), reflected the essence of his pastoral work – proclaiming the hope of salvation through the death and resurrection of the Savior.

The monument was created in 1999 at the initiative of Bishop Juozas Matulaitis of Kaišiadorys. The author of the work is sculptor Vladas Žuklys, and the architect is Stasys Petrauskas.

Bishop Emeritus Juozas Matulaitis and Kaišiadorys Honorary Citizen Stasys Petrauskas narrate the story of the monument to Teofilius Matulionis.
