The history of the church began in 1809 when the first chapel was built for the burial of the Zaleski family, the owners of the nearby Kasčiukiškės Manor. The chapel was renovated in 1903. In 1915, the Palomenė parish was established, and the chapel was renovated and expanded to become an independent church. Since then, its exterior has remained unchanged. The new parish included the nearest settlements of the Gegužinė, Žasliai, and Žiežmariai parishes. The first parish priest was Father Motiejus Cijūnaitis. During the First World War (1915), the church served as a German military hospital for five days. In 1916, Father Juozapas Stasiūnas established the parish library.
The church houses the painting "Saint Michael the Archangel" by Franciszek Smuglewicz, the most famous Lithuanian classicist painter, as well as other paintings by various artists, including "The Judgment of Solomon," "Joseph in Prison," and "Pieta."
