The Užupis Cat

Užupis, famous for its bohemian spirit and unique Republic Constitution, hides a special legend – the cat sculpture on Polocko Street. Created by artist Jonas Gelčius, the earring-wearing cat invites passers-by: “Scratch my ear – fears will vanish, and your deepest wishes will come true.” This interactive sculpture quickly became an inseparable part of Užupis and one of the district’s most visited landmarks. It symbolizes creativity, freedom, and the district’s affection for cats, who are considered special residents here. The Užupis Cat not only attracts tourists but also builds a legend that helps people better understand this artists’ and craftsmen’s quarter in Vilnius.
