Near the small town of Keila-Joa, by the Keila River, lie the romantic ruins of Meremõisa Manor. Once a grand estate belonging to notable Baltic German families, including the Counts von Benckendorff who are buried in a nearby cemetery, the manor was an important cultural and historical site. Distinguished guests visited here, and the surroundings included a landscaped park and cemetery complex. Sadly, the turbulent 20th century – wars and Soviet occupation – led to the manor’s decline, and today only fragments of its walls and foundations remain. The ruins, overgrown with greenery, create a mystical atmosphere, serving as a silent witness to past grandeur. Today, Meremõisa is a popular stop for history enthusiasts, photographers, and nature lovers seeking hidden corners of Estonia.
