Located on the Keila River near the famous Keila Waterfall, the small Keila-Joa hydroelectric plant is one of the oldest of its kind in Estonia. It uses the power of the waterfall to generate electricity and today has a capacity of around 365 kW.
The power station is closely linked to the history of Keila-Joa and was built to harness the river’s natural energy. Though modest in size, it is an important heritage and engineering site, showing how humans have learned to adapt to nature’s resources. Visitors coming to see the waterfall or Keila-Joa Manor can also view the station and learn how water power has been used for centuries in industry and energy production.
