Located on Saaremaa Island near Sõrve village, Coastal Battery No. 43 was part of the Peter the Great Naval Fortress, also known as Zerel. Built in 1914 during WWI, it had four 305 mm cannons mounted on open armored platforms. Ammunition storage, diesel generators, and a sand-covered wooden command center supported the battery, while a wooden fire control tower stood near Sõrve Manor. A 5 km narrow-gauge railway connected the site to Mõntu Port. Today, concrete artillery barbettes with round bolts, parts of defensive walls, and the hill where the command center stood are still visible.
