Ristna Battery No. 42 in Hiiumaa was an active military site from 1940 to 1960. Initially equipped with 130 mm coastal guns, it later housed 127 mm naval artillery and in the 1950s gained reinforced concrete bunkers and a 1953 fire control tower with radars. After 1960, it was repurposed for early warning radar units, with large concrete hangars, radar mounts, and a helicopter pad. Many structures remain: storage bunkers, ventilation pipes, blast-proof doors. This is the only battery of its kind in Hiiumaa, featuring underground tunnels and Cold War-era infrastructure.
