Built in 1941, the Tahkuna battery had four 130 mm B-13 cannons with a range of 25 km. It survived WWII undamaged and was reused from 1944. The final shots were fired in January 1960. The area features preserved gun blocks, ammunition depots, a shelter-power station, fire control tower, and cable trenches. A 1968 monument near the parking lot honors fallen Baltic Navy soldiers and was designed by Vitaly Navoznyh, a stonemason who fought in Hiiumaa. This is a unique military heritage site on Hiiumaa Island.
