Tahkuna’s 12-inch coastal battery is one of four of its kind in Estonia, built under St. Petersburg’s naval defense plans. In 1917, 50-ton guns capable of firing up to 28 km were mounted on concrete platforms. It is the only Estonian battery where the cannons remained intact. Today, all four platforms survive, along with trenches, shelters, and a large crater from an exploded ammunition store. This historic military site attracts heritage tourists and history enthusiasts.
