Located in Tahkuna on Hiiumaa Island, Estonia, Battery No. 316 was one of the most powerful Soviet coastal defenses, built in the 1940s. It had two MB-2-180 dual-gun turrets, spaced 450 meters apart. Due to swampy terrain, construction was complex; concrete was poured non-stop over five days. An underground control center featured armored domes, tunnels, and diesel generators for autonomous operation. In 1941, an explosion halted pumping, and water filled the lower levels. Today, remnants like turrets, tunnels, and museum exhibits reflect this unique piece of military heritage on the Baltic coast.
