The Paul Keres Monument is one of the notable attractions in the city of Pärnu, dedicated to the famous Estonian chess player and international grandmaster. The monument stands next to the school on Kuninga Street, where Keres studied from 1930 to 1934. The sculpture was created by artist Mare Mikoff and was unveiled in 1996. It symbolizes not only the history of chess in Estonia but also a unique piece of cultural heritage. Interestingly, Paul Keres is the only chess player in the world whose portrait appeared on currency – the Estonian 5-kroon banknote. This monument is a great spot for cultural tourism and chess enthusiasts.
