The memorial stone in the village of Kirbla honors Eerik Kumari – a renowned Estonian ornithologist and native of the area. He contributed to the establishment of the Matsalu Nature Reserve and became a key figure in Estonia’s environmental protection efforts. Since 1989, an environmental award has been given in his name for outstanding achievements in nature conservation.
A 280-meter walking trail leads to the stone, located on the Kirbla escarpment – a limestone plateau offering a wide view of the Kasari meadow. This is one of the most scenic places in Western Estonia, perfect for hiking and nature lovers.
